Module 6: Skeletal System

OBJECTIVES:The skeletal system provides the framework for the body.  In this module we will discuss the cells and matrix that forms bone tissue.  Bones are found in a variety of forms.  We will see how this variation influences their morphology and the types of joints and movement that results.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to:
  • List the functions of bone.
  • Describe osseous tissue, the types of cells that form it, and the difference between compact and spongy bone.
  • Identify the bones of the skeleton.
  • Compare and contrast the different forms of ossification.
