Module 12: Digestive System

OBJECTIVES: The digestive system includes any process and structure that involves the digestion and absorption of nutrients.  In this module, we will have extensive information regarding the histology of the various organs and the chemistry of digestion.

Upon completion of this
  • Describe the functions of the digestive system.
  • Define mechanical and chemical digestion.
  • Describe the structure and function of each organ (primary and associated) of the digestive system.
  • List the digestive enzymes, where they are made, and their function.
  • Describe how food is digested, absorbed, and eliminated.
