Module 9: Nervous System

OBJECTIVES: The nervous system may arguably be the most complex system of the body.  We will spend time on the specific characteristics of nervous tissue and how the neurons send impulses.  Additionally, we will cover the morphology and functions of the spinal cord and brain.

Upon completion of this module you will:
  • Identify the structures of a neuron, the brain, and the spinal cord.
  • Describe the different divisions of the nervous system.
  • List the functions of the nervous system and specific functions of the neuron, the brain, and the spinal cord.
  • Describe the neuroglia and the roles in nervous system.
  • List the steps of a neural impulse.
  • Define a nerve.
  • Describe the role of the autonomic system and its divisions.
