Welcome to General Anatomy and Physiology

BIOL 2400: General Anatomy & Physiology

COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The content of this course includes the basic anatomy and physiology of the body. After a preliminary introduction to such areas as terminology, overview of the body, the chemical basis of life, and morphology of cells and tissue, the larger interactions between structures and functions of the different body systems are summarized and integrated. Students will then apply this knowledge to critical questions. There is a laboratory requirement for the course. This course serves as an essential link to the University's healthcare and human-service programs.

COURSE OBJECTIVES:
These are the objectives for this course:
  • The student will develop an understanding of the organization of the human body and how smaller components work together to create larger, more complex components.
  • The student will become familiar with anatomical terminology and learn its significance in both the field of anatomy and the larger fields of health care.
  • The student will learn the names, locations, and appearances of many important structures in the body.
  • The student will develop an understanding of how various cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems function under normal circumstances.
  • The student will develop an understanding of how a change in, loss of, or increase in activity of various structures in the body leads to diseases, disorders, or conditions.
  • The student will develop critical thinking skills as they apply to the functions of various structures in the body.
