Module 5: Integumentary System

OBJECTIVES:The integumentary system, also known as skin, has a number of functions and layers.  Each layer has specific tissue types and cells that relate to their function.  Additionally, there are accessory structures within the system that you will be responsible for knowing.

Upon completion of this module you will be able to:
  • List the functions of skin.
  • Explain the structural differences of the epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis.
  • Identify specific cell types and substances of the skin.
  • Describe the accessory organs of the integumentary system.
